Keynote Speaker: Cathy A. Malchiodi, PhD, LPCC, LPAT, ATR-BC, REAT

…is a psychologist, expressive arts therapist, mental health counselor, educator and researcher in the area of traumatic stress and body-based approaches that are grounded in relational, developmental, mind/body and innovative methods of treatment. Cathy has spent the last several decades working with traumatized children, adolescents, adults, families and communities, expanding the range of understanding of non-verbal, sensory-based theories and methods through 20 books, 50 chapters and refereed articles, and over 500 invited presentations around the world. Cathy has been interviewed by a variety of news outlets including CNN, Time Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Natural Living, Marie Clare, Australia Childhood Foundation, US News and World Report, and VICE, among others.

 

Cathy is the founder and Executive Director of the Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute in Louisville Kentucky and President of Art Therapy Without Borders, a global non-profit organization. She is also a past President of the Association for Humanistic Counseling, a board member of the American Counseling Association, American Art Therapy Association, Association for Creativity in Counseling and First Aid Arts, among others. She has held academic appointments at seven universities throughout the US and is a research fellow with the Emili Sagol Creative Arts Research Center, University of Haifa. Cathy is one of the top bloggers for Psychology Today covering a wide range of topics including trauma, mind-body approaches to wellness, neurobiology and the expressive arts in psychotherapy and has a readership of approximately 5 million.

 

Her latest book is Trauma and Expressive Arts Therapy: Brain, Body and Imagination in the Healing Process and recent books include What to Do When Children Clam Up in Psychotherapy, Creative Interventions with Traumatized Children and Creative Arts and Play Therapy for Attachment Problems. She is a well-known authority on children’s drawings, providing expert opinion on what art expressions communicate and the importance of creative expression for children and adolescents. Her bestselling book Understanding Children’s Drawings will be in its second edition in 2020.

Featured Speaker: Terry M. Levy, Ph.D., D.A.P.A., B.C.F.E.

 

Dr. Levy has been a psychotherapist, trainer, supervisor and consultant for over 45 years. He is the director of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center and the Attachment Treatment and Training Institute in Evergreen, Colorado. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Colorado and Florida, a Board Certified Forensic Examiner and a Diplomate and Master Therapist of the American Psychotherapy Association. He is co-author of the best-seller Attachment, Trauma & Healing (2nd edition, 2014, Jessica Kingsley Publisher, London), editor of Handbook of Attachment Interventions (2000, Elsevier Press) and co-author of Healing Parents: Helping Wounded Children Learn to Trust and Love (2006, Child Welfare League of America).

 

Dr. Levy was the founder and previous director of the Family Life Center (Florida) and the Miami Psychotherapy Institute, which offered family systems treatment and training. He was co-founder and past-president of the board of directors of the Association for Training on Trauma and Attachment in Children (ATTACh), an international organization dedicated to attachment and its critical importance to human development. Dr. Levy is a clinical member of the American, Colorado, and Florida Psychological Associations, American and Colorado Associations of Marriage and Family Therapy, American Family Therapy Academy, and the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
